MANILA — A book on the legacy and contribution of Andres Bonifacio in the people’s struggle was launched on Nov. 28, two days before the country commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.

“This book is not just for you to post for your selfie or to serve as your history book. This book reminds us that the legacy of Bonifacio is still alive to this day,” Gerry Lanuza of Contend-UP, one of the editors of Salita ng Sandata, said.

Salita ng Sandata is a collection of scholar articles, essays and poems that paid tribute to Bonifacio who led the first national democratic revolution in the country in 1896.

Editors of the book include national artist for literature Bienvenido Lumbera, UP College of Mass Communication dean Rolando B. Tolentino, UP professors Judy Taguiwalo,Gonzalo Campoamor II and Lanuza.

Rosario Bella Guzman, deputy executive director of Ibon Foundation, publisher of the book, said during their research for Salita ng Sandata, they found out how little information is available about Bonifacio.

“The narratives (in the book) are not mere rehash of previous theories or writings. The writers and contributors are from the ranks of modern-day Bonifacios,” Guzman said.
