According to College Editors Guild of the Philippines National President Trina Federis, “We can’t wait any longer. Another month has gone by, yet our president remains elusive, refusing to issue a statement or put forward a solution. Our president has changed, yet not one case has been solved; the statistics keep on growing.”

Federis said that President Benigno Aquino III should immediately act to resolve the violations. “If his governance is anchored on change, he should start with changing our country’s dismal human rights record. As long as people live in fear of being persecuted due to their political beliefs, no meaningful change can be achieved.”

“The youth is banking on President Aquino’s promise during campaign season and the SONA of meaningful change. We are challenging him to prove to us that his words are not merely empty rhetoric.” Federis concluded.
